collision

embodied animated score for ensemble

Collision is an animated score in which, unlike other works such as spam or how robots listen to the world the projection of the score is spatial. Each musician is positioned within a specific area of a grid projected from a zenithal (top-down) perspective, large enough for each square to measure approximately 80–100 cm per side. Within this distance, musical parameters “collide” as they enter and exit the quadrilaterals, combining different generation speeds with different types of noteheads. The musical form is mediated by the combinatorics of these two parameters: rate of generation and notehead type. An online version can be tested here.
